The C.E.R.T. (County Emergency Response Team) was developed in August, 1996 to handle civil disturbances. It was a joint collaboration between the Sheriff's Department and the Department of Corrections, Camp Hill, PA. Team members were recruited on a volunteer basis with the stipulation that all training exercises are mandatory. The team trains four to six hours every three weeks. The 25-member team is comprised of 24 men and 1 woman. The team also includes one team leader, two squad leaders, two snatch recovery team, and two chemical team members. The C.E.R.T. team would be activated through the Mutual Aid Program and/or strike injunctions, riots, protests, and/or natural disasters.
